MTCE Spring Meeting 2014: Denmark

Denmark   Henning and the Danish Viking gang invited us to experience some extraordinary highlights of their lovely country. They had set up a marvellous agenda which provided actions for every taste, from off-road riding on sandy beaches to cultural events.

The spring meeting was on May 25th to May 30th, 2014.

Agenda:

Sunday, May 25th, 2014

Arrival

We gathered on the beautiful isle of Rømø and stayed at the Hotel Lakolk close to the widest beach in Europe.

Monday, May 26th, 2014

After a tonic breakfast we started driving to Hvidesande at the Danish west coast. Here we stopped for lunch at the Hvide Sande Røgeri smoked fish shop.

After lunch we started from Hvidesande to drive to Holstebro where we stayed at the Borbjerg Mølle Kro. This extraordinary hotel is run by Ester who is a famous MC traveler. After dinner Ester showed some pictures and told stories about her trips.

Gathering for a breakRiding to Hanstholm at the West coast. The tour went across the Limfjord over two bridges. We visited the World War II museum at Hanstholm showing "Big Bertha", a super-heavy howitzer developed by the famous armaments manufacturer Krupp in Germany. We took a ride with the ammunition train around the old fort and through the bunkers.

After lunch we left Hanstholm and drove to Thorup strand for a quick stop at the Thorupstrand Kystfiskerlaug. This fishing community formed a common quota company which included both boat owners and crew fishers. They build a common pool of quota rights ensuring the community a share in the resource and providing fishers with an interest in conserving this resource for future generations - legally and biologically.

Our final destination was the Hotel Hjallerup Kro in Hjallerup. This hotel was our base camp for the rest of the meeting. In the evening we had barbeque together with MC Tour Nord at their club house.

Back home at the hotel we had a pit stop at the local Brewing Club which was luckily in walking distance to our hotel.

Hell Riders in actionToday we started heading north to Sæby to visit a very good friend of Henning who has a collection of 150 restored MC's. This is the biggest private MC collection in Denmark.

We continued the trip along the west coast to Skagen to see where the to oceans meet. On our tour through the town we had a stop at Skagen Bryghus, the local brewery.

Today's dinner was at Henning's. Afterwards the most experienced drivers had a chance to give a proof of their skills riding with a side car, using Henning's famous plant oil diesel motorbike that he drove around the world.

The MTCE Denmark gangWe rode along the east coast down to Hals at the Limfjord in the morning and went to the local Flying Club. Unfortunately the heavy winds we had already all the the days before had not stopped. Hence the planned spins in the air had to be cancelled, but we learned a lot about ultralight planes and flying.

After lunch we rode back to Hjallerup and had a look to the local technique museum. Then we went to Hjallerup horse marked which is the biggest horse marked in the north part of Europe. The town grew from less than 10.000 citizens to more than 100.000 for 4 days. A retired manager of the marked gave us an interesting peep behind the scenes. We had dinner in one of the marquees where it ended up in a long night.
